SAILING SUMMER CAMP IS FUN WITH US

BS Fűzfő has a noteworthy history of organising sailing camps

Our club, BS Fűzfő Vitorlás Klub (previously Nitrokémia Vitorlás Klub) is an important base for youth competitive sailing in Hungary.

We have been organising camps for 23 years and therefore have extensive experience in the field. Even our instructors took their first steps towards the sport in these camps before becoming competitive sailors. Among them there are Hungarian Champions, European and World Championship participants and they are ready to pass their knowledge on to the new generation.

Enthusiastic pupils come from within and outside the border alike to participate in our camps. We’ve had students from over 10 countries, the evidence of which is found on the wall of the teaching room.

In 2016 our sailing club became an accredited training camp of the Hungarian Sailing Association.

If you are skilful and you like sailing, you can even become a competitive sailor with us!

Throughout the 5-day camp the participants receive both theoretical and practical knowledge. After getting to know the parts of the boat, you will be able to set your boat up, you will learn how to helm it and how to navigate it in different types of wind. Besides, you will learn numerous boating knots and terms related to sailing. By the end of the camp, you will be able to independently helm your boat, leave and enter the harbour and conduct various manoeuvres. These will be presented to the parents each Friday at 4pm.

All practices are conducted in a lifejacket provided by us. During training time, a proficient instructor follows and supervises the pupils from a lifeboat.

Depending on headcount, 2-3 instructors look after you in our camps, and one during leisure time as well. There is enough attention given to each individual so that they can progress properly and enjoy themselves at the same time.

Young, friendly, devoted and professional sailing instructors. You can find them below.

Substitute activities then take place such as sports competitions, quizzes, treasure hunting, charades and other games. In addition, there is a shaded area where you can play football with your friends or read.

On the other hand, you can sunbathe as well and get an ice cream when it gets too hot. There is a campfire every Friday where the safety of campers is always implemented.

All this comes with 24-hour supervision. Overnight campers have youthful staff looking after them exclusively and making sure they make meaningful use of their time out of practice, too.

Of course you are free to choose what to do with your free time, for instance it is also acceptable if you would just prefer to rest in your room.

Have you been to sailing camps several times before? Are you familiar with the basics? You do not have to start from scratch, you can continue from where you left off. We practice making a start and course racing with advanced learners.

The time of enrolment is 4pm-6pm on Sunday in the main hangar. Overnight campers can claim their room right after. Dinner is served and later on the camp commences with an evening social where campers get to know each other.

Our club offers several different ways of entertainment. You can use our beach volleyball court, you can play football on our detached grass-grown football field, and our trampoline also helps blow off some steam. Campers have immediate access to Balaton as we have stairs leading into the lake.

You can choose between two types of boats

OPTIMIST

A well-established and safe choice for 8-12 years young children. The Optimist is the most popular sailboat class in the world. It is taught on and competed with all over the world from Argentina to New Zealand.

HARTLEY

A choice recommended for youngsters above the age of twelve who like speed and prefer to share the boat with other people. The crew is dynamic and the position of helmsman is rotated among pupils, thus everybody gets to try their hand at it. More advanced groups get a spinnaker which allows them to move
even faster in stronger wind so that they can learn manoeuvres done in such circumstances.

Attention!

It’s important that your children can swim well and parents are required to write a statement confirming this.

Life in the camp

Accommodation

We provide accommodation in the refurbished gallery of our hangar. 4-bedded dormitories are available upstairs and 8-bedded dormitories downstairs. The rooms are furnished with bunk beds. The hangar itself was built in the 1930s by Transylvanian carpenters who are famous for their proficiency.

We welcome our overnight campers from Sunday night, and thus they can spend time with us from Sunday till Saturday.

Catering

Overnight campers are provided meals four times a day at Bárka Bistro, operated on the premises of the harbour. Daytime campers are provided warm lunch and an afternoon snack. For an extra cost, we are able to provide them breakfast and dinner as well.

In case of allergies and intolerances, personalised meals are also available, but only with a medical certificate.

Our campers said

My favourite time was when the wind blew so strongly we almost reached Balatonalmádi, the adjacent town.

Capsizing was my favourite manoeuvre. That was really exciting.

I liked the different activities and instructors a lot. I’m sad the camp was over so quickly. I’m grateful to have been there.

I learned how to helm a boat. I got the chance to learn many new things. When the wind didn’t blow but we still went outside, I loved playing in Lake Balaton.

I really liked the ‘Guest Star’ experience. Kékszalag (Blue Ribbon), Hungary’s most prestigious sailing competition took place during camp, so we got a peek into how that works as well.

I wish they served ice cream for breakfast!
